Movie – Sicario
What happens when Kate, a by-the-book and driven FBI agent is teamed up with an elite task force that has a private jet and throws around bullets like rain water? More questions than answers come up, that's what. They are sent to the notoriously under-policed border of Mexico and America and what puzzled me was why Kate (Emily Blunt) wasn’t asking more questions. She only agrees to get involved because she is lead to believe she may get to find the culprits behind a terrible crime; Kate had discovered a load of corpses kept behind boarded-up, fake walls in a suburban house. We, the viewers, never quite believe that all is straight forward and Kate doesn’t ask enough questions until she is facing bullets and breaking the rules. By then it’s too late. There are a couple of moments I’m unsure about; when Kate’s not-so-honest colleagues, lead by Matt (Josh Brolin) from the specialist team could have frankly gotten rid of her and covered their tracks quite easily and also when she’s vulnerable to attack by the enemy which seems unlikely for a switched on, eat/sleep/dream about the job type. But then it shows she is only human.Sicario is gripping and refreshing, particularly in having a female, (non-made up) lead who is just good at her job and is respected for it.I can’t help but think in another time Blunt’s role would have gone to Sandra Bullock and Bolin’s bad-but-good guy would have been Piece Brosnan. The cast aced this though helped by the comfortable new and tiny screen at the latest Cineworld at Resort World.8/10Smile factor 7/10
