Movie – Looper

Yes it’s a time travel movie. Loopers are people hired by the bad guys to kill other bad guys and get paid in silver bars. The trick is they are sent back in time to be killed and it’s when they have gold bars instead that the problems start but that only happens once, when a Looper is sent to kill himself.  This is called ‘closing the loop’ the equivalent to ‘you’re fired’ but with 30 years notice so more like a pension to spend your life doing whatever it is you want to do. So that doesn’t sound like a bad idea, if you survive.Joe is our main Looper and all is going well until he sees his older self (Bruce Willis). When the victims are bought to a time and place to be killed, they wear the same clothes and their faces are covered. It’s only when the Looper uncuts the silver bars do they know they are gold. However, when Joe senior is sent to this time, his face is not covered and in the confusion, he manages to get away. So now there are 2 Joes in the same time. The year is 2044 and America has gone through a bit of hard time during which 10% of the population are now telekinetic which adds a little something to the plot.Add to the mix that Joe senior is angry as when he was grabbed to close the loop, he saw his beautiful wife being killed. Word is that in the future, there is just one bad guy, the rainmaker, who is closing all the loops. He sets out to find this guy to kill him but the problem being he has narrowed it down to 3 children so all are targets. One happens to belong to single Mum living remotely on a farm, a little bit like the Terminator story here.  The child is a super telekinetic ‘special’ childFrankly, you don’t need to know the whole plot but blink and you may miss something vital.Very much worth a watch.8/10Smile factor 7/10
