Movie: Before Midnight
I was unfamiliar with the first two, Before Sunrise and Before Sunset but the BF made me watch them before saw this on the big screen. So that was a heavy introduction to the couple in the space of a few days although I think this film stands alone fine. The main characters – and I mean main – although in this third film there is a healthy cast unlike the initial two - first met around two decades ago. Each film is spaced nine years apart and picks up the story.A quick recap, in the first the American man (Jesse) and French lady (I know, I know!) (Celine) met on a train (again, I know!) in their teens and vowed to meet at a later date. This never happened but in the second, they did, sort of bump into each other nine years later when Jesse wrote a book about his adventures and was on a book tour with it. (again, clique!). Celine found out about this and turned up at her local book store so they have another time constrained encounter as Jesse has to move on to his next signing. So in this final one, they do get together and are raising a family in France, with Jesse’s son from his former marriage still in the USA. This film is the most interesting of the three because although it’s as dialogue heavy as before – which I quite like – there is a cast of characters so it’s not relying on the conversations just between the now 40-year-old ish couple. They take the summer out – somehow – and go to Greece to see old friends and of course re-discover themselves. But do they rediscover their young selves from Sunrise or when they finally got together in Sunset?I like the scenery, found some of the couple of talk exhausting (shut up!) and liked the dinner table conversations with friends more.7/10Smile factor 6/10 Coffee Rating: Macchiato
