Film - Operation Varsity Blues: The College Admissions Scandal

An enlightening documentary about Rick Singer, the man at the centre of this recent news story.

Shedding light on the parents who successfully bribed the way for their kids to get into elite schools, this docufilm successfully interjects reenacted scenes with interviews.

Self-styled ‘coach’ Singer took money from parents and bribed college staff to ensure their kids got in.

What isn’t covered is how their kids feel about their parents having so little faith in their ability that they automatically thought they would need help. Clearly, they just didn’t want to take any chances but it will be interesting to know more from the kids’ point of view. In most cases, they appear to be unaware of their parent’s deception as I recall only one set of siblings depicted in this docudrama.

With all the numerous college staff depicted taking bribes, it makes you wonder how much is enough.

At the time of writing, Singer has not been sentenced (he is cooperating with the FBI) and the scandal is ongoing. As in the UK, there is no end to wealthy parents donating to schools and then expecting their kids to be selected.
