Film: Nyad
Nyad
Nyad is Diana Nyad, and her attempts to swim between Cuba and Florida. The film spans through
Originally in the late 70s, the film is about her comeback 3 decades later at 60. It’s a story I know nothing about, despite the final instalment was only a decade ago so it’s quite intriguing..
Apart from extreme fatigue, there are sharks and other sea life to contend with. However, Nyad is as much about her long-standing friendship with her coach Bonnie (Jodie Foster) as it is about Diana Nyad’s (Annette Bening) determination. And then about their relationships with the team they have recruited, a navigator, who’s facing his own internal challenges, a captain, jellyfish and shark specialists as well as a doctor who all travel on the boat alongside her for each attempt to swim the 100+ miles.
It zips along well. One thing that puzzled me is that both leads are playing characters who are pretty much their age, but made to look much older.
