Film - Living

As with Mrs Harris, we return to the post-war years and widower Mr Williams (Bill Nighy) reflects on where his energy and love of life went. We are left to ponder this with him. Could it be his wife going to her early grave that has wiped the smile from his face?
The trailer shows Mr Williams going to his humdrum job, as boss of a small department in the council. Being on the same commuter train as his team but sitting separately,

With his wife gone and maybe because society sent him in the direction of work/marriage/family/home and not much else. he is introduced to us as aloof. We get the sense he is counting the days until he can join his wife. We soon learn another side to him.

I expected the whole film to be about him rediscovering his zest for life through the help of other folks. Living is not as predictable as that and it is all the better for it.

Living is a beautiful film that made me think of Mrs Harris and The Lost King. So it seems to have all the solid hallmarks of a British film in 2022.
