Film - Akira
It seemed fitting to see a dystopian version of 2019 for the last film at Cineworld before it temporarily closed. Again. Akira is from 1988, apparently groundbreaking. I can see why although I’d never heard of this old animated sci-fi epic.
The story centres around a young biker gang in Tokyo, lead by Kaneda, for which I heard Canada. His mate picks up powers after a bike accident and we move into an intriguing fantasy element. It rocks along at speed so I don’t notice I’m wearing a mask in the cinema for a full 124 minutes.
I’ve not come across the term anime before although I recognise they style as finding at least one Japanese film to watch is one of my goals when on a plane. At the cinema, I’m reminded of seeing The Wind Rises.
There is a lot to take in during Akira so I would watch it again given the chance.
