Book - The Vodka Trail by A A Abbott
We were introduced to a whole host of characters in the first of the four Trail books and most of them make an appearance here. In The Brides Tail, we learned of the courful back stories of all and how their lives entwined.
Despite making a life for herself in London after being left destitute with her parent’s murders in Bazakistan, Kat still wants to go back home to reclaim heritage. He father’s vodka business was taken by the Russians and given to someone who she felt was more in tune with their thinking. However, she grew up in the business, always knowing one day she will take over.
Kat does not, however, imagine bumping into Marty, the man she blames for letting her Dad’s murder happen will be her one true friend.
The story grips as it goes back and forth between London (Kat’s wealthy boyfriend Ross), Birmingham (Marty’s vodka distribution business and his employee, Kat’s former flatmate Amy. There’s a side story of Ross’s boss and the inner dealings of the insurance industry which is made to look far more glamorous than I’m sure it actually is! This is one of the areas the author is very good at and The Vodka Trail is another pacey read which I completed during just one enjoyable return trip to Paris via the splendid Eurostar.
Onto part three where I’d like to see more of Amy and hope Kat wakes up and re-discovers her independence.
