Book - The Accidental Woman by Jonathan Coe
This is the rather strange and therefore compelling story of Maria who seems to have no intention other than to float through life. I love it when we can follow characters over the years as we do with Maria from leaving school through university and beyond and yet she doesn’t actually seem to change.Marriage, deep friendship or even a constant admirer seems to evoke little enthusiasm. Maria has her standards and ideas of how the world should work and it simply doesn't. I know that feeling. The Accidental Woman was written in the 1980s and it sure stands the test of time. It’s a witty book although laced with sadness.I look forward to reading more from Coe's back catalogue.
