Book: No Thanks! I'm Quite Happy Standing! by Virginia Ironside
My distaste for slavish iPhone folk is amply rewarded when Apple are compared to a cult early in this thoroughly witty book. I’m eternally infuriated that so many seem to think that this is the only smartphone when it wasn't even the first and isn't the most popular. However, we are talking about someone who is about to turn 70 and is portrayed as the least digital person on the planet.
Marie Sharpe is slightly neurotic, utterly privekedged and wasteful. Who tosses bags of donations to their own charity into the bin rather than recycling? It’s a paradox as the book is full of talk about eco goodness.
I’m dissapointed to find out now that this is the last of a series of books. I don’t think I will go back and read the earlier adventure of Marie Sharp now as even this felt a little dated. The book is written in Bridget Jones ‘Dear Diary’ style and it 100% filled my criteria of much needed frivolous esapsim. After reading a number of dark books I’ve gone from reading about eating scraps out of the bin to wastefully putting perfectly fine clothes straight in a bin. At least it’s fiction.
Spoiler
I thought Jack was decided as the best man but a couple of pages later the diary states it was James. Typo or did I miss something?
