Movie – Unknown

I feel I’m in the middle of a run of these thriller type films but I’m without complaint thus far.Unknown was always going to remind me of Liam Neeson’s ‘Taken’ but the thought is dispelled as soon as the film starts. Some films very cleverly take you along on the ride and I’m hooked on this without need to check the time, emails or Twitter account. It’s like the producers have cleverly put a twist approximately every ten minutes through the film but I’m sure (I hope) it’s not as contrived as that. The story is of man (Liam Neeson) who is attending an important conference in Berlin (cold, grey Berlin), is in a car accident, goes into a coma and four days later, is literally removed from the world like he never existed. Indeed another man has taken on his identity, is married to his wife, is in all his old photo albums, is attending the conference and meeting other science colleagues who (this is the important angle) have never met him previously.I’ll refrain from giving away how he discovers what has indeed happened suffice to say, he should never have gone back to the airport to find his missing briefcase containing his passport as that’s when his taxi was hit and he was saved from the river by the female taxi driver (Diane Kruger), who turns out to be his running mate in trying to prove who he is. Where are the Adjustment Bureau when you need them?Another great film; not achingly revolutionary but a watchable two hours of escapism and that’s all I ever ask for.8/10 (recommended)Smile factor 7/10 (Berlin is looking grimmer still) [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uakoUpfoWfA&w=640&h=390]
