Movie – Pirates! Band of Misfits

It’s the school holidays so there has to be an innocent kiddie film in the cinema. Thank heavens.An animated tale with a modern take but set in the time when pirates ruled the sea (when was that then?), our hero, the Pirate Captain dearly wants to win the coveted ‘Pirate of the Year’ award that has always alluded him, on the account that he doesn’t kill enough people or loot enough booty. That’s because he’s the good guy competing against bad pirates.However, whilst trying to rectify both of those facts, Pirate Captain finds himself with the attention of a scientist, Charles Darwin, who discovers his beloved Polly the Parrot is in fact a rare and unique dodo.

The Pirate Captain and crew sail for London, where incidentally the new, powerful and single Queen abhors pirates (“off with their heads”). The chase from the Queen and the race for the award ensues.The star of the show, although there are many, is the  chimp ‘man-panzee’ butler who only communicates – very smartly – via flash cards; every home should have one!The film is a delight, for kids off all ages.7½/10Smile factor 9/10
