Movie – Mud
My word, I haven’t written about a film since May 6th? It sure has been a trying half of the year and I’ve seen less than I normally do but I have seen a few. So I shall try to remember them.Starting with Mud, which appeared via the ‘nothing else on’ list. It has that (slightly annoying) man McConaughey in it so would never have been on the must-see list. What I remember is said McConaughey plays a bit of a drifter living on a discarded boat/tree house. Some young boys find the boat and want it for themselves but soon are intrigued by the man they called Mud, who turns out to be on the run from the police, for killing a man. It looks like he did this under the instruction of his manipulative ex-girlfriend, Juniper (Reece Witherspoon) who he still shines a major torch for as he re-builds a boat to make their escape. The girlfriend does make an appearance in town but is also wanted by the father of the man Mud killed, thinking she would lead him to the fugitive. The young boys are the stars of the show as they befriend Mud and send messages back and forth to Juniper, dodging those out to seek revenge, squabbling parents and carefree Uncle’s along the way, hoping that this love story has a happy ending after all.So it turns out to be an OK film, but just slow in parts.7/10Smile factor 7/10Coffee rating: Macchiato
