Movie: Enough Said
Three films in four days? This only happens when I’m travelling in N America and I don’t even do it much there nowadays. But the reason for it is travel related, trying to see all the films I really want to see before I go off on my Canadian adventures for 2013.The three films are all different and this one centre’s on Eva (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) who works as a freelance home masseuse and is counting down with dread when her only child leaves home to go to college. Divorced, she goes to a party with her married friends - happily one of them played by Toni Collette – and meets Albert (James Gandolfini – RIP) who is in the exact same position. The empty nest syndrome is something many relate to, harder still when a divorced parent of one and there is no-one left at home when the off-spring go off into the big world. But this film handles that and starting relationships as old-enough-to-know better divorcees in a sweet but realistic way.The film flows nicely following the new middle-aged relationship, has good humour, and is uplifting without being sappy while remaining beautifully balanced. In fact the only teary moment is when divorced parents get together to send off their one child off on a plane to college. They still have that in common. The music was the only time when it did get a bit twee – why do they have that same trying to be quirky singer/songwriter music in the sweet films these days. Stop!Absolutely worth the watch still.8/10 Smile factor 9/10Coffee rating: Americano
