Movie: Big Game
Yet another USA President is in trouble on film but with a difference; Big Game features Samuel L Jackson in the lead role. Plus an appearance by Jim Broadbent. This can only be fun.The POTUS (I’m pretty convinced that the fact that Barack Obama’s new Twitter account of the same name started around the time of this film’s release is no accident) is on his way to a conference in Finland while clearly he has other things he’d rather do when his plane is taken down by, we assume, terrorists. His key security man – who, from the shaky eye movements we suspect from the start – immediately makes him escape in his release pod, all on his lonesome. His pod is found by a teenage deer hunter, sent out on his first mission to kill a deer on his own, to become a man. I think I’d prefer the Bar Mitsvah. The teen requests to see some ID as proof and amazingly the Pres carries his own passport, no sign of a mobile phone though. The proverbial unlikely friendship is struck up whereby the boy refuses to take the President home with him until he has his dead deer and the bad guys who shot the plane down come looking for the pod to complete their capture.I wouldn’t want any deer to get shot but I do enjoy the premise of the depicted old Finnish tradition with all the men-folk in the village waiting to see if the young’un returns with a deer and as a man.You can guess what he returns with. 7/10Smile factor 7/10
