Film: Knives Out
A pacey whodunit based on the death of a renowned, wealthy crime author 85-year-old Harlan Thrombey.
Mr Blanc played by Daniel Craig with an absurd southern American drawl is the investigator who nobody has hired and yet he commands the local police to his way. He heads up a big cast and I had to keep reminding myself who was someones wife/brother/child.
In the mix as children/spouses are Don Johnson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette before we even got to the grandchildren and Harlan’s nurse. They all have names we only see in American films and the Republican party; Ransom, Wanetta, Benoit and Walt.
The family want to know if their father/grandfather was murdered but are really just waiting for the will to see how much they were loved depending on what share of the fortune they receive. Some just want/need the money to pay for their already Harlan-subsidised lifestyle.
The all-star ordinarily serious cast has a giggle here as Knives Out ticks along nicely with much humour and in that respect, it reminded me a bit of the Grand Budapest Hotel.
