Film: The Bikeriders

There is no reason I can think of to get on a bike, motor or any other kind. My dad did take me on the back of his moped when I was tiny, back before the laws stopped us having fun. I was scared but clung on to my dad with whom I had complete trust to keep me safe.

So watching a film about a load of grown men who spend their free time ‘riding’ together in the 1960s has not persuaded me otherwise. They did this without wearing helmets. The film showcased the strong bonds of friendship these men formed through their shared love of riding. They displayed unwavering loyalty to each other, despite the threat of death either via accident or at the hands of a rival ‘club’.

Indeed the trailer shows one of the lead characters, refusing to take his club logo jacket off and choosing to have his head kicked in instead. Any wives and girlfriends, while expressing concern, understand the situation. This is, after all, the 60s.

It was never explained why his girlfriend (Jodie Comer,) owned her house in the 1960s without appearing to have a job. Did she come from a wealthy family? Was she a young widower? This seemed odd, considering the story is told through her eyes as she talks to a journalist.
