Film - Supernova
More than any other, I expected Supernova to be the film of the summer that will be requiring most tissues. I was right. When one of the couple has dementia, it is only going to end in tears.
Sam and Tusker (Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci) are on a road trip in their old camper van travelling across England visiting family. It’s a way of prolonging the inevitable and maximizing time together while reminiscing and making new memories. Tusker, a writer is determined to be remembered how is now, not when full dementia kicks in. He doesn’t even want to be around for that himself while Sam struggles with this notion and wants to be with him forever, no matter what the struggles will be.
At the back of this story we are wondering if Tusker is going to write his last book - unlikely I fear and if Sam is going to make it to his last piano recital before the two of them retire.
I am thinking these two on the screen have the means to pack up their lives and treasure this time together and others may not. Supernova is still though a thoroughly watchable, gentle love story.
