Film - Star Trek 11 - The Wrath of Khan (1982)

I religiously saw Star Trek on the telly as a kid. It was an essential family watch plus there were only 3 channels. And I’ve never willingly seen any of the films unless I happen to glance up at the TV when onbe was on.  Seeing this on the big screen, I realise I have seen bits the comedic looking Khan and his wrath.

This year is the worst film year that I recall; there have been many weeks where nothng appealed and yet there are so many old films coming back to the cinema. So here I am on a rare Saturday evening braving being close to Broad St weaving through shouty drunks, hen and stag dos and all the extra police that all of that entails. Only because my Unlimited card is sitting going to waste.

I had to keep reminding myself this came out in 1982, perpetuating to be the 23rd century. I’m wondering why they can’t communicate on their mobile phones rather than running around soulless corridors looking for each other. Wrath of Khan came out a full decade before I got my first mobile.

Kirk, who makes me think of my mum who always got upset when he was trapped on on unknown planet as he seemed to be every other week after Top of the Pops, is now an Admiral and Khan is the character he sent to hell, as it were.

It is great to see the characters I have grown up wih on the big screen and especially great to see women featured in responsible roles. Quite something for 1982.
