Film - Mostly Minimalistic
It’s been years since a long-haul flight and during these, I always aim for at least one international film.
When hoarder Marlen meets a minimalist Flynn, clearly there is going to be a clash. Marlen’s apartment is so full of everything she has ever bought in her life that she cannot open her front door and can never have guests. Flynn is in temporary accommodation in the building while on a work contract when his flat floods. He knocks on Marlen’s door to get help and she has no choice but to eventually let him in to kip on the sofa - if he can find it. They are a generation apart so I saw no funny business here as we’d say in the 80s. However, now that I have looked the film up, it is billed as a romance. I must have missed that bit.
Flynn is at the other extreme in that he intends to have very few belongings so eventually, the conversations go to why Marlen needs to keep everything and negotiations start. It gets a bit more fun at this point, but I couldn’t help but want to turn up with a van full of boxes to that apartment and cart things off to the charity shop. Or pop them on Olio.
Mostly Minimilastic is billed as a comedy-drama. I’d say it’s light on comedy but skipped along well enough.
