Film - Matilda the Musical
Another interpretation of another Roald Dahl classic, although the first I remember seeing unfold on the screen. The story of the young girl with a terrible home life and a penchant for making up fantastical stories is one that (sadly) lasts the test of time.
Tim Minchin’s songs are brilliant. I got over the fact that this is a musical by the first chorus.
Emma Thompson's school head character is so utterly vile that they must have had so much fun filming, even with the huge young cast. In fact all the cast out-acted themselves; it works so well in this type of film with a special mention for the always versatile Stephen Graham plus it was lovely to see Sindhu Vee pop up.
And of course, all teachers should be like the angelic Miss Honey.
A magical Christmas watch.
