Film - Mank

1930s Hollywood is reevaluated through the eyes of scathing wit and alcoholic screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz as he races to finish “Citizen Kane.”

Since watching this, I’ve seen this quote everywhere. Interesting how a celebration of alcoholism is peculiar to the arts. Mank portrays the scriptwriting for the film Citizen Kane where Orson Welles hired Mankiewicz to ‘help’. Recovering from a broken leg, Mank mostly managed to find drink despite barely leaving the bed and barking orders to those hired to make sure he hit his deadline.

Another black and white film,  although it seems more accurate as Mank is about a story from the 1940s. One that I’m unfamiliar with and care no more now than I did before. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Citizen Kane although I have discovered that the same guy was a producer on the unfailingly brilliant Marx brothers films.
