Film - Frankie

Frankie is the second gentle film I have seen since the cinema re-opened. This one has a vast cast of characters, one of them being Portugal which plays a panoramic, relaxing and sunny backdrop.

Frankie is a French actress keen to get all of her family together in a house in Portugal. This means ex-husband, her British daughter and family and French son plus, bizarrely one younger friend, a make up artist (Marisa Tomei)  who she is keen to pair up with her single son but she has someone tagging along with her.

Whilst exploring a little of the love she has for her present husband (Brendan Gleeson), the film goes off to look at each of the characters and their relationships with each other and with Frankie.

It’s all a bit otherworldly as we watch the film cameraman and make-up artist discuss their working on the latest Star Wars film and the ex, a renowned chef before we even get to the much loved by locals, Frankie. Everyone seems to be thinking about either a decision they have made in the past or one they have to make today. Either way, we are in a reflective mood.

A gentle plodder. Enjoy your virtual travels to Portugal.
