Film: Flow
I soon realised there were no humans in this animated film. Flow is a story about pets and other animals surviving after the human race has wiped itself out.
The black cat we follow from the start goes home to shelter after a pack of dogs starts chasing it, and it seems the occupants have left suddenly. Soon, the home is also submerged underwater. We’ll call the cat Cat (if it’s good enough for Audrey Hepburn). As the film progresses, Cat gradually befriends a variety of estranged animals. I adore the Retriever, who is the first dog to join forces.
Then we have a capybara and a secretary bird, neither of whom I’m familiar with, so there is more to learn here than just the eco lesson.
Although the animals are initially suspicious and hesitant, birds, primates, and mammals eventually come together, working to figure out ways to survive.
At least, I want them to survive. The planet has returned to the animals that have always nurtured it.
Beautiful yet telling film.
