Film - Dora and the Lost City of Gold

This being my introduction, I found Dora quite delightful. I have no idea how it matches up to the kid's programme as (obviously) I never saw it, although I did keep seeing the toys everywhere so I knew it was popular. Although the trailer does say ‘if you think you know Dora, think again’.

Dora the Explorer is the little girl who is home-schooled by her explorer parents and lives for her daily adventures in the Peruvian jungle. Her best friend is her cousin who soon moves to the big city, LA. Eventually, as her parents are embarking on a big - we assume dangerous - adventure, she is packed off to join her cousin. In any case, they want her to see the real world, the one she will probably be living in.

I love seeing the world through her innocent eyes as she greets every new thing from High school mates to modern conveniences but that's the joy of kids films anyway. She ends up being kidnapped, along with her cousin and a couple of new (not) friends by people who think her parents will lead them to a lost treasure.

Her not friends are the school geek and the most popular and therefore obnoxious girl in school so the film then becomes a lesson in how to get along with everyone and never judge a book by its cover.

Also great parenting (because parents should be perfect in kids films) and great that they did such an exciting job and lead a literally adventurous life.

Dora and the Lost City of Gold is as funny and heart-warming as you’d expect and you will find yourself smiling throughout. Oh and Dora has a cute (because they are all adorable) monkey called Boots, what’s not to love?
