Film - Coming 2 America

Three decades after Coming to America, The King of Zamunda is ready to pass on the crown to Prince Akeem  (Eddie Murphy) who’s kids are all grown up and it’s time to train up an heir. The only thing is he and Lisa have only 3 daughters and they need a male to carry on the tradition. And this is already the point where I think the sequel could have done more to be fit for the 21st century, never mind the huge cast of scantily clad dancers that pop up at every Bollywood-esque opportunity.

Prince Akeem’s rival to rule Zamunda is General Izzi (Wesley Snipes) who is keen for the families to merge by marriage. Then the Prince finds out he does have a male heir back in New York. So off we go again, although this time most of the action is in Afrika so Wakanda jokes aplenty.

There is plenty of humour but Coming 2 America could improve with a better storyline. It’s worth a watch for the sake of nostalgia though and Murphy never loses his screen presence.
