Book: Love & Other Scams by PJ Ellis
So this one may be a surprise and there is the best reason for that; the author, known to me as Phil is a local writer, fellow coffee shop frequenter and all-round good person.
So I was beside myself when news of his first novel came through and waited and waited until it was finally released! Actually, I got it a couple of weeks later when it finally turned up in my local bookshops. I didn’t want it delivered - I wanted to see it on the shelf (see photo). You can tell I kept popping in!
We follow the adventures of Cat, from Cheshire (I know) and now a broke freelancer in London who needs to find a new place to live as well as a job. As it happens, she’s a competent thief, and she meets her match in East Londoner Jake and off they go.
PJ Ellis, as we should call them, has written a fun, pacy, light-hearted read that can be enjoyed by all. I found myself racing through the pages once I got to the last third so, brace yourself!
Considering this book was written during the pandemic, it’s a quick turnaround to get it published. I remember the celebrations when Phil landed an agent and since then, good things have happened. I’m so proud!
